Yesterday, President Joe Biden made a historic announcement, announcing his decision not to seek reelection and offering his full support and endorsement to Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President of the United States. This marks a significant moment for the Democratic Party and our country, highlighting President Biden’s unwavering selflessness and commitment to prioritizing the interests of the United States and everyday Americans.

President Biden’s tenure will be remembered for its numerous achievements, including leading the nation out of the COVID-19 pandemic through the American Rescue Plan Act, making historic investments in infrastructure with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, enacting significant climate legislation through the Inflation Reduction Act, and promoting domestic semiconductor manufacturing with the CHIPS and Science Act. His administration’s efforts have laid the groundwork for a prosperous and secure future for America.

The Oneida County Democratic Committee extends our deepest gratitude to President Biden for his dedicated service and statesmanship throughout the decades that he has served this country. I am confident that his remaining months in office will continue to reflect the stability and competence that have characterized his presidency.

As we look ahead, we recognize the grave threats to both the Democratic Party’s prospects in the upcoming November elections and the future of American democracy. The recent attack on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, has resulted in his resurgence in national and battleground state polls. A second Trump presidency poses significant risks to American democracy, the lives of ordinary Americans, and the global community. We must unite to prevent this outcome.

Our path forward is clear: we must rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris. She has consistently performed similarly to President Biden against Trump in polls and offers continuity with President Biden’s administration, as well as a strong vision for the future. Kamala Harris brings a wealth of experience and commitment to civil service with her as she has served as a district attorney, Attorney General, a US Senator, and of course as Vice President.

Vice President Harris is an individual with the highest integrity, capability and capacity for leadership and compassion - a stark contrast and foil to the Republican nominee. She champions the right to abortion, supports the creation of competitive jobs in American industry, and has a track record of advocating for middle- and low-income families. Her dedication to the interests of citizens across the nation makes her an ideal candidate for President.

Vice President Harris already has the endorsement of all 50 State Democratic Party Chairs, a majority of Democrats in Congress, and nearly half of the country’s Democratic governors (including New York Governor Kathy Hochul). Since yesterday, she has raised $50 million dollars in grassroots donations from regular Americans who are energized by her candidacy.

I am proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States and look forward to attending the Democratic National Convention next month as we unite behind Vice President Harris and her historic candidacy as we work to preserve our democracy.
